A Mobile Mentality is a Must for Business

Whilst the internet has brought us so many opportunities when it comes to doing business, it also present challenges.  True, business are now able to reach a much wider customer base than ever before, dealing with people from all parts of the country and, in many cases, overseas as well, there is more competition out there too so standing out from the crowd is essential for the success of any business nowadays.  When it comes to doing business online, a mobile mentality really is essential to take your business beyond the limits of geographical dependency and local activity.  Today, we’re going to take a look at how you can make your business more remote and reach more potential customers.

Whilst the idea of a physical workplace still exists for many companies, there’s been a shift in recent years towards the new remote workplace that doesn’t depend on buildings and a particular region.  Mobilising your business will enable you to expand your customer base and increase the bottom line.  Moreover, it will eliminate some of the costs of doing business, resulting in lower overheads.  We now have the capability and technology to take full advantage of this and here are three ways in which you can mobilise your business for a better future.

  • HIRE THE RIGHT PEOPLE – some people work better within a more structure setting whilst others perform more effectively when they have greater freedom and flexibility.  With a remote business, you’ll need to make sure you hire people who prefer the flexibility – they will be more productive, enjoy greater job satisfaction and be more engaged with your business.
  • GET THE RIGHT TOOLS – one of the reasons businesses are able to function on a remote basis nowadays is that the technological infrastructure is in place.  However, your business can only benefit from that infrastructure if you adopt the right tools and apps necessary to do so.  This means that you will need some type of virtual office tool - a platform that runs in the cloud, allowing you to manage schedules, communicate with employees, store files and keep on top of your business on any device and from any location.  If you are the owner of a service business, you’ll need remote support software that enables you to improve mobility without compromising the quality of your services.
  • COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNICATIONS – you’ll need to communicate frequently and effectively.  Your business won’t enjoy success unless you can communicate with employees to keep them up to date with what’s going on in your business, set clear expectations and conduct conversations with staff and customers in a way that conveys the value of the new mobile procedures you’ve adopted.

Initially, the shift to a remote business structure involves dramatic change so, if you’re in doubt, over-communicate about everything in order to help employees adapt to the change.  Once everybody has settled in to the new way of working, you should be able to reduce these types of communications.

If you’ve not yet mobilised your business, now is the time to do so.  There is so much to be gained and making sure your business takes advantage of the latest technologies is essential for success.
